The 055XPROB makes the famous Manfrotto-patented horizontal centre column feature even easier to use. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung round to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself, so switching between framing and positioning setups is more convenient than ever. The ergonomics of the leg angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks themselves have also been greatly improved.

This tripod has enough adjustments to ensure you will get your shot framed exactly how you want it and very quickly.
While it is not made of carbon fiber, it is heavy, but in a reassuringly solid way. This makes it more difficult to carry around, but I couldn't see spending hundreds more for carbon fiber unless one was a pro.
There is even a handy hook to hang a bag of weights from it during super windy conditions. The construction is certifiably bomber as well.
Sweet tripod for the money.

055 provides incredible stability - much better than 190. It is also pretty tall - w/o using central column I do not need to bend to look into viewfinder.
On the negative side it is pretty heavy. So make sure that you have carrying bag, or backpack mount or at least a carrying strap.

I pulled it out of the box and WOW, it was just what I expected. I really enjoy the horizontal column, it rocks. It is light and durable.

When shooting Items on a table for example, the center columns ability to be positioned sideways makes it easy to shoot different angles positioned out over the table, that would otherwise require cumbersome maneuvering of you lighting. The extreme flexibility of the legs allow you to get very low to the ground. Especially for the cost I think this is a great tripod.
