Comments about Quantaray QSX 7001TM Tripod with Built-in Removable Monopod:
Was about to purchase a $289 carbon fiber tripod with magnesium head from one of the top names, when I picked up the Quantaray to take a quick comparative look to see what I was getting for the extra [$] To my surprise, it turned out to be less. The Quantaray felt just as sturdy and the head panned as smoothly. Yes, the Quantaray does lack individual pivots for tilt and pan, but it has other very useful features -- a quick release plate that attaches to the bottom of your camera and center stalk that becomes a 61" monopod (how cool is that). Actually, the tripod comes with 2 quick release plates, so I keep one mounted to the base of my DSLR and the other to my camcorder. The other brand I was considering had composite legs -- but I found them to be a bit of a pain (took more effort to extend and retract them due to drag). The Quantaray was quicker to set up and stow away. I used it while vacationing in San Francisco / Yosemite National Park and it performed wonderfully. Plus, I wasn't the least bit concerned packing it into my checked luggage, leaving it in a hotel room, or having it get doused in a rain-shower (it's only [$]). I can honestly say this tripod performs well beyond it's price might suggest. A very good buy. Spend the money you saved on your next camera purchase.

Comments about Quantaray QSX 7001TM Tripod with Built-in Removable Monopod:
This is a very solid line of tripods. The series gets better and better as you go from the 6000 to the 7000 to the 9000...
Most users will be able to get by with the 6k or 7k series. The removable quick-release plates are stunningly easy to use, but do get in the way with a vertical grip.
Overall, this is one of the best values for the money in tripods.
