Personally I miss a viewfinder, as holding a camera at arms reach doesn't allow for a shake-free image. Also there is no place to rest your hand on the camera without touching the LCD screen, ensuring lots of fingerprints. Image stabilization would have been nice. That said, for a beginning photographer who wants reasonably decent shots, the various scene modes are useful. The portability and dependability of this camera makes it nice to stick in a pocket when on the go. Flash is pretty decent - we took a picture of a black dog outside at night using one of the special scene modes and the image was well defined. For the price (just under [$] you really can't go wrong. Although red and blue are color options for the body, I like the black body since it's a lot less overt/obvious when shooting candid shots in a crowd, for casual photojournalism, or at the scene of an accident or crime, for instance.

I have Canon powershot camera which I bought 3 years ago. I wanted to change to a newer better camera. I settled with Nikon coolpix after good reviews and once I got a very good deal, I just bought it.

I can recommend this for family pics for easy operation and larger LCD screen

This is a graet little camera packed with the features of more expensive point and shoot.
vibration reduction, face reconition and a great 3 inch screen. These features are found on cameras that cost two to three times as much.
Great for the first time digital photo person.
Real easy to use.

I bought this camera so that I could have a camera in my pocket at all times. I knew that image quality would not even come close to my Dslr, but good enough as a carry everywhere camera.

The camera lacks some control on functionality, but for the price, it's perfect. I was thinking about getting the Nikon S600 (I think that's the model letter) but it [$] was only 2 megapixels more. Money being tight, I went with this. I was disappointed that you don't have any control over ISO/Fstop/shutter speed settings. It's a good, convenient size/weight, but not as thin as the S600... though that one feels like it'll break in your hands. So this fits slightly bulky in your back pocket, but not bad. Just don't sit on it (luckily, haven't tried that... yet).But other than that, it functions really well, great, clear photos, especially in natural (sun) light with shadow. I had a Kodak (my second) and it was a piece of junk, cruddy resolution/very pixelated even at the highest setting. This camera doesn't have that (from what I can tell, so far). And the video's really nice... take a bit to adjust the white balance from going from shade to light, but it is a camera after all. Though don't talk when you're shooting, otherwise it'll playback really LOUD while everything else is quiet.For it's price, I'd give it 5 stars, but I had to give it 4, just from the lack of a few things (and therefore not "perfect"). The brand name 'NIKON' tells it all. Even though ther were some nevative reviews, it still outpreforms my last digital camera. It's light and compact. The large viewing screen is fatastic, I don't have to weare my reading glasses to see, even braud day light. Your custoer service wes very coorporative when I found out there was going to be a ling delay they made arrangment to send a different color in record time. Thank you...

I wanted a small, simple point and shoot for me as my other half is the real photographer. The camera takes good photos if you select the appropriate preprogrammed scene settings (i.e. landscape, beach/snow, dusk/dawn, etc.) The completely automatic setting doesn't always get it right. It's a little larger and heavier than similar cameras in the same price range, in part to the AA batteries. The large LCD screen was fantastic until it was cracked inside a camera case with out being struck or dropped. I don't know how it happened. With no manual view finder there is no way to frame photos or access the menu features until it is fixed. I have yet to hear if it will be covered under warranty. If I had to buy a new one I might give up the larger screen for a smaller, lighter camera. Every once counts when backpacking.

I have a Nikon DX with multiple lenses but found it difficult to use in my travels. The Nikon Coolpix is easy to use. I can carry it with me and take pictures at a momments notice. I have just returned from a trip to Pakistan where I was involved in consulting work for the Ministry of Education. I took over 300 photose during a two and one half week period. I was able to take excellent photos of the participants in the workshop as well as some excellent candid photos of people and places in and about Islamabad. These include marketplaces, textile shops, street scenes, a tailors shop, resturants, outlooks, and food dishes. I found my CoolPix easy to use and easy to carry. I would recomment it highly for travelers and casual use.

This is one of the easiest to use digital cameras I've found. The controls and functions are logically arranged and simple to figure out. This would be an ideal camera for both first time users and more skilled photographers who prefer simplicity and uncomplicated controls. The large LCD screen makes capturing images and viewing recorded pictures effortless. Unlike many cameras, this one takes two AA batteries, available anywhere. You won't be tied to your charger or find yourself without power and no way to continue use.

Like the easy auto mode just point and shoot. Bought a shield for the LCD. Helps with blocking out sun in daylight and protects the screen.

I have purchased this camera and earlier coolpix cameras for years because they are small, rugged, have a low cost and most importantly, the Police staff that use them feel they are simple to use. Using AA batteries is important because the cameras are shared. I would buy again.

I am 68 and do not have good eye sight. because of this I find it hard to use the display in bright sunlight,especially. I am also disappointed that this camera does NOT have a view finder that you could use instead. Most of the buttons are very small and hard to see (black on black) These are my major complaints. Overall, I think the camera takes excellent pictures and I am very happy with it.

This camera is awesome! Very easy to navigate. The 3" LCD is totally cool. Battery life is good. Takes great pictures.
Only negative is that you can not CHANGE color pictures to black and white like on the old Nikons. I wish they would reincorporate that feature...then this camera would be a 5 star!

camera takes extremely clear still photos of any setting: portrait, landscape, close-up, even text copying. Video function is surprisingly good, and better than some cheaper video cameras I've used!
