Autofocus lens for macro photography up to life-size (1x) magnification. Inner focusing affords a long working distance of 5.9in. (149mm) at 1x. A 3-group floating system results in excellent delineation at all focusing distances. Ring USM for silent and high-speed AF, and full-time manual focusing also provided.

Entirely new optically, with a three-group floating system for exceptional close-up performance.
The first lens in its class to feature innner focusing. The lens length never changes, even at life size!
A secondary diaphragm blocks stray light at f/2.8, increasing contrast when shooting wide-open.

I like taking shots of wildlife and with this lens I take more than my card will hold. It is a fast lens and very acurate. It would be nice if it had Image stabilization. Do to using this lens I am looking for a very sharp printer that matches this lens.

I spend many many hours at the local Botanical Gardens and this lens is on my camera 95% of the time! I love it. I brag about it to everyone. I have three friends with the same camera I do and they are always wanting to borrow it.

This lens is awesome. Not L glass but you can't tell. 1:1 macros are sharp with great color. Also takes some good portraits. Lens can be used as a 100mm prime. All around great lens. USM focus is quite so not to scare tiny creatures. I highly recommend
