(based on 84 ratings)
Brand: Quantaray
Located in: Lenses For Canon
Quantaray's lightweight, compact, high-image-quality telephoto zoom lens with macro capability of 1:2 that can be used with digital cameras. This new lens is a Di type lens using an optical system with improved multi-coating designed to function with digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras.

With this 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, flipping a macro switch in the focal length range of 180mm to 300mm obtains a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a minimum focus distance as short as 37.4-inches, enabling close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other objects that normally require the use of a specially designed macro lens. Moreover, this is a zoom lens that casually offers the distant capture and foreshortening effect pleasures of the 300mm ultra-telephoto world.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

I just picked up photography as a hobby and purchased the Canon Rebel XS digital SLR from Ritz. They were running a special: buy the camera and get an additional lens for 1 cent. I thought the lens was going to be junk but I am really impressed. It has sparked even more interest in my new hobby and I definitely recommend this product to any new or experienced photographer looking for a quality product for a great price in this economy.

Slow Focus
Best Uses:

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

got this lens as part of a promotion Ritz camera had going when I bought my Canon Rebel XS. the zoom feature, as well as the macro features are great for a newbie photographer like myself, especially considering the price. however, it does tend to get a bit heavy, and is slow to focus at times. also, no image stabilization makes telephoto shots nearly impossible unless you have a tripod to keep the camera steady.

I went into a Ritz store a few days ago and saw this lense on sale and really paid it little attention. When I got home came to this website and based on the feedback on the lense from you folks I returned to the store and bought this lense. My wife and I immediately tried it out in a scenic wooded state park a hour or so from our house and we loved it. I really think its a great value and anyone considering it should know it really is a great little lense.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

This is a great upgrade from your typical 18-55mm.
Which most SLR users want once they get accustomed to their camera's. The prices for other brands of this 70-300mm are in the hundreds and even thousands. This Quantary product is a perfect compromise, without compromising anything. If Macro is your thing, you'll also love the crisp shot this lens produces. The only con with this lens is despite the fact that it is decently light weight you will find yourself needing to use your tripod for long exposures. Which will only better your images anyway.

For the price verus the mose expensive lenses of the same focal range this is a great buy. I use it on my Canon EOS Rebel XTi and it focuses just as quickly as the 18-55mm Canon lense, that came with the camera, with the same clear and sharp images. I actually like the feel of the grip better then the much more expensive Canon lense and for the less then professional user it gets the same kind of results as the higher cost lenses

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

I am a library media specialist at a school and also edit the school newsletter monthly. I have used the Quantray lens for individual photos of students, group shots, gym shots, and general outdoor photos. I have noticed some blurry focus in the gym when kids are moving--but if I can wait a bit to shoot the photo, it resolves itself.
I tried some late evening shots of some deer about 1/8th of a mile away and got some blur. The sunset photos were awesome!
Indoor shots are pretty good--even at some distance!
I have a Quantray zoom lens for my Canon Rebel EOS SLR film camera and have been very pleased with it over the years--the SLR digital zoom lens seems to be just as good--just takes a little getting used to.

VERY HAPPY WITH THIS LENS. USED IT FOR WILDLIFE AND PICTURES OF DRAFT HORSES AT OUR LOCAL STATE FAIR! GAVE ME GREAT RESULTS. IT INTERCHANGES IN A SNAP WITH MY OTHER LEN'S. i HAVE EVEN USED A 2X MULTIPLIER ON IT WITH GREAT RESULTS. ONLY DRAWBACK I FIND IS THAT IN THE EVENING WITH CHANGING LIGHT CONDITIONS IT IS A LITTLE HARD TO FOCUS. WOULD GIVE IT 5 STARS AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

I bought this thinkng that more zoom is better no matter what. My Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi came with a 18-55 and I wanted to take pics at my sons sporting events (baseball, football) Well, my biggest complaint is that it is horrible at full zoom, it just won't focus at all in the max zoom. As I read things and talked with friends I found out that for a little more money I could upgrade to something a whole lot better and also found that Quantaray doesn't have the best rep anyway. I ended up upgrading to a Canon 55-250 f/4-5.6 with IS (this Quantaray doesn't have IS - you'll get a lot a shaky/blurry pics with it, esp at slower speeds, at the slower speeds it nearly impossible to get a clean pic with this lens) I mean, if this is the max amt of $ that you can spend, then it's better than no zoom at all, but, if you can swing another [$] to get a Canon, you'll be much happier in the end

I purchased this lens to get a feel for what I wanted to go with my Canon as an addition. I've taken over 1,000 shots with it and am really amazed with how it reacts. I normally use manual focus, but the AF works well, not exceptionally fast but works well. Some of the pics I have taken are amazingly crisp at 300mm. It is recommended to use in lots of daylight, for low light use a tripod. If you're just starting out and want a lens to get to the action, buy this one, practice with it, and get a hang of what you need, then go buy that really expensive lens. By then you will know what you really want. [...] This lens is worth every penny.

I am a novice photographer and really enjoy taking great photos to remind me of places I have been to and people I met. I have desired a telephoto lens for my Canon digital Rebel XT for some time now, came across this deal on Ritz and couldn't pass it up. I was very skeptical at first due to the price,I have this thought process that if it isn't similar in price like the name brand it will probably be junk. I am very pleased that this is NOT the case here. I found this to do exactly what I wanted which was to be able to take close up photos of people at an event indoors at an arena. My photos came out great! I was seated at a fairly great distance, like usual : (, but the photos came out like I was right in front of the speakers and people whom I photographed. The automatic focus worked perfectly with my Canon Rebel with no unexpected problems. As a cost concious individual with very expensive tastes I would say that you can't go wrong here with this telephoto lens. THANK YOU Ritz Camera for providing such a good value to me and other people who don't want to spend a thousand dollars just to take a great photo!

We bought two of these. My wife and I have Canon T2`s. We have run one roll of Kodak Gold ISO 200 each using this lens. Stunned at the over all quality of this lens. Macro not bad at all. Clear through the range. To those that complain about shake, It`s a Telephoto lens!!! Don`t expect it to handle like a 50mm. Too dark at f4-5.6? In my view not realy. It`s no L, but at [$] it`s a very good lens. It comes with a hood and is [$] cheeper than the Canon, and I think its a better lens.Buy it.

Decent entry level zoom lens. Reasonable range and price. Macro mode is a nice touch, although I didn't get to use it much. VERY slow to focus if you aren't close in range or in low contrast situations. Like many zoom lenses, difficult to use indoors without supporting light sources. Ultimately returned as it will not meet my needs, but if you don't have a lot of cash and have time to set up your shots, it may be a good value for you.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

I bought the Quantaray 70-300mm lens for my Canon Rebel XT back in Dec06. I primarily shoot outside near the water. I read all of the pros and cons on both this lens and the Canon equivalent and chose this one because Ritz gave me a money back guarantee. If I didn't like the pics that I was going to take that weekend, the sales rep was going to give me my money back. How could I go wrong? My first time out with the camera was a big Hobie Cat sailing event at the beach. I handheld the camera (even with a sling on my right shoulder) and took fantastic shots of an amazing day at the beach in December 2006. I couldn't be happier with this lens. I hated this equivalent lens on my Nikon N65 35mm. It was as bad as the reviews, but not this Canon Quantaray lens. Buy it, it's definitely worth the money.

I just purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT and noticing how expensive the Canon brand lenses were I opted for this Quantaray model. I was happy with the lens included with the camera but I wanted something with a little more zoom.
The other feature that attacted me was the Macro feature. Usually there are lenses that are strictly for macro photography but this lense had that feature along with its telephoto capability. I believe that for the amateur photographer this lens is a bargain and it gives great results. Just look at the photos I posted.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

I bought this lens along with a Canon Rebel XT because I was interested in photographing far subjects and close subjects. With its added Macro shooting feature and telephoto range it allowed me to have both the things I needed in one affordable lens. I am not a professional, just a hobbyist and I have not used expensive Genuine Canon lenses so I cannot tell you if this lens' photos can compare to them. The lens is a bit heavy and holding it with one hand while hanging from the strap on your neck can start to wear your forearm a bit.
If you are new to digital SLR photography and are looking to do some practice without spending too much money then I suggest you buy this lens because with the price you can't go wrong. Later in the future when I have more income I might step it up and buy a more expensive Canon lens. Below are some photos taken with the Rebel XT using this lens. People say bad things about lenses, but I often believe that it's not the lens's fault.. it's the photographer's. A good photographer can always take amazing shots with any kind of lens, even a cheap lens.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

Good starter zoom lens. I use it both outdoors and indoors (for taking well-lit speakers/lecturers at church). Not the fastest lens, but once you get used to it, it takes some great shots.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

Lightweight, but very prone to movement even when supported. Have taken a few impressive shots with it, but generally only pull it out on bright days outside. Can reach out and pull in action, but at a price.

This Lense is very susseptable to shake. Even using a monopod it saves very poor pictures. I recommend finding the extra funds to buy a true lense in place of this model.

Comments about Quantaray Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Canon EF:

This lens is inexpensive and does a real good job giving a good zoom. The 70mm range is still quite high of a focal legnth for most indoor shots so its definately mostly for outdoors. The gives nice clear shots in good light but with overcast days it doesn't preform well. Its good low cost alternative if you don't take many pictures but with my high usage the lens the apeture blades wore out in the first year fortunately it has a warranty.
