This magnificent new superzoom encompasses all popular focal lengths from the 50mm ''normal'' to 500mm ultra-telephoto; a 10:1 zoom ratio, providing tremendous versatility. The use of an apochromatic design and four elements composed of SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, plus a seven group zoom system and multi-coated optics, enable this wide-ranging zoom lens to provide a high level of performance, as well as versatility. It also employs a rear focus system to insure quick, convenient manual focus and a non-rotating front barrel.
The 50-500mm f4-6.3 EX APO RF HSM is coupled with Sigma's HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), to provide quiet, responsive autofocus function, plus ''full time'' manual focus. This lens also features a Zoom Lock mechanism to help eliminate ''zoom creep'' when the lens is tilted up or down.
Sigma uses magnesium in the tripod mount to help reduce the weight of this lens, while maintaining the strength and rigidity necessary to support it.
A custom bayonet Perfect Hood is provided to protect the front of the lens from extraneous light. Nature and sports photographers will appreciate the performance and versatility of this amazing new superzoom lens from Sigma.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 50-500 mm f/4-6.3 EX APO Lens for Canon AF:
I use this lens for shooting sports, construction projects where moving around is difficult or prohibited.I also use this lens for private ivvestigative work and wild life in urban america.I believe this is a great looking piece of glass whith class and performance to back it up. It is a bit heavy and not true to all the 50-500 range sale. But I love it faults and all.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 50-500 mm f/4-6.3 EX APO Lens for Canon AF:
This is a great lens to take to the ball park, or the field. If you like taking pictures of wildlife this is for you. It stays on my Canon xti most of the time. I shoot it mainly with a good quality monopod. It is a hard lenst to handle without support. Great bang for the buck! Sigma hit a big homerun with this one!

Comments about Sigma Sigma 50-500 mm f/4-6.3 EX APO Lens for Canon AF:
Any lens this size are larger is going to have some weight, but don’t let that discourage you from owning one. If weight is a problem, a monopod is the ideal tool to maintain steadiness without producing fatigue. Focus is much quicker than you think even at 400mm and closer and I have used the lens with a 2x attachment for even more zoom. The lens is ideal for wildlife photography since you can catch clear photographs without disturbing your subject. The zoom feature offers much versatility over lenses locked in at a specific focal length. I have used this lens in conjunction with professional grade Canon cameras with outstanding results.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 50-500 mm f/4-6.3 EX APO Lens for Canon AF:
This lens is heavy. Some people say it's not that heavy, but for all practical purposes, there's no doubt it's on the heavy side. Also, past 400mm it's not all that sharp. You can take a decent picture, but it will certainly need some sharpening in photoshop. If you're going to spend this much money on a lens, then you're probably pretty serious about your photos, and if you're that serious about your photos, you most likely want to spend the few hundred more on the Canon for the crisper images. That's what I'm going to do.
