Lensbaby selective focus SLR camera lenses take photos with one area in sharp focus, with that ‘sweet spot’ surrounded by graduated blur. Photographers can move the sweet spot of sharp focus anywhere in the photo by bending the flexible lens tubing.
Lensbaby 3G features the same low dispersion, high refractive index, multi-coated optical glass doublet and the same flexible tubing as Lensbaby 2.0, but adds three focusing rails that emerge from the camera mount and pass through the focusing collar. A trigger button on the focusing collar releases three pins that engage the focusing rails and lock Lensbaby 3G in a bent position.
The process of shooting with Lensbaby 3G is quite different than with Lensbaby 2.0, and the two lenses are optimized for different types of photography. While Lensbaby 2.0 is great for intuitive, fluid, photojournalistic shots, Lensbaby 3G is a workhorse for pros that require precise focusing, complete control, and repeatability.
Once Lensbaby 3G is locked into place, additional fine focus can be achieved by turning the barrel focusing ring, which moves the optic in and out like a normal manual focus lens. Also, in the locked position, a photographer can make small adjustments to the placement of the sweet spot of focus by turning any combination of the three focusing rails.

I love the effects you can achieve with this lens. It is so much fun to play with the focus. I've even purchased the extra macro lenses that fit on the front. They truly extend the functionality of the Lensbaby. I purchased this lens with hopes to enhance images of my jewelry. The results far exceeded my expectations.

This lens is fun! Try using it for things other than special effects. It's fun for even portraits, or landscapes. It may even be fun for sports (have not tried that though).
It has a fast aperture at full wide open (f/2.0), which gives you a very strong selective focus, and even allows shooting indoors in low light.
There are included aperture discs that are easy to interchange, and the smaller sizes also give you a bit better focus all around.
My only complaint is that it's not auto focus, and you don't get a light meter reading with most cameras. But with a D300 you do get a light meter reading with the lens set up in camera, and the D300 will even tell you when it's in focus at the focus point (the new D60 may also give a light reading and tell you when it's in focus also, but I have not had the chance to try it out yet).
This is fun, inexpensive, and gives you a better image than trying to do the same effects in photoshop.
