Comments about Nikon 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 'G' Autofocus Zoom Lens:
If you are using a digital camera, this lens is only average. The new DI lenses focus so much more clearly, it is uncomparable. This is a great lense for sports on a bright day where you have plenty of light.
If you have to buy only one lense for distance and on a budget, this lense is fine. If you have money to spend, buy a Tamron DI lense. Their technology is exceptional and produces pictures of clarity and quality.

Comments about Nikon 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 'G' Autofocus Zoom Lens:
This would make a great lens for travel because of its lightweight design and small size. It's also good as a starter telephoto.
The camera body, not the lens, runs the auto focusing, so the focusing speed depends on the camera body (slower on D50, faster on D200).

It focused very slowly. I bought it a few years ago, and I was disappointed. It was not worth it. It would make a good back-up lens.
