It's design employs three (3) aspherical lens elements to minimize spherical aberration, astigmatism and sagittal comma flare. The use of two (2) SLD (The Special Low Dispersion) glass elements results in excellent correction of chromatic aberration and provides a high level of optical performance and high contrast and resolution. The lens also incorporates a Dual Focus mechanism.
The 24-70mm f2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF is an easy to hold the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during auto focusing, and yet provides a wide focus ring for easy to use manual focus. Since the front of the lens does not rotate, it allows the use of a flower shaped Perfect Hood and facilities the use of polarizing filters.
The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.

When I first received the lens from ritzcamera.com, I tested the lens out and was a little disappointed. In regards to the quality of the pictures, I was very satisfied with the results, but I was more than concerned with other things. First, the zoom ring was pretty stiff, the motor was loud and the autofocus in low light was not that good....it was searching alot. I was about to return it, but I went to the ritz camera store to test a copy that they had in stock. I was plesantly surprised at the difference between the two. It was much better in all aspects so I just exchanged my bad copy for their good one. Now I'm a happy camper.

This is a great lens for everyday, however I find it a bit heavy. The zoom ring was stiff at first, but it loosened as I used it more and is fine now. One thing I find annoying is the aperature lock ring moves easily so I often get EE error messages and have to adjust that before I can shoot-fine for most things, but bad when shooting motion such as sports and dance.
Overall however I am getting good color and nice sharp focus, especially for portrait work.

Bought this lens on the performance of the 120-300mm f2.8. Gave it a try at an NBA game and I must say the lens performed admirably. Not at all like the first Sigma lens I bought back in 2000. Wished it had HSM but for the price, what a deal.

I worked with a pro wedding photographer and this lens was what she was using. I asked her if she would buy it again. So I bought it. I love the 2.8. There is nothing like shooting where I could not before. thank-you
