About Me Semi-pro Photographer
Comments about Nikon 55-200mm F/4 5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens w/ Vibration Reduction:
I'd been looking at VR lenses for a while, now, but couldn't justify the price. When I saw the "Christmas pricing," I quickly read reviews and decided to check it out for myself. I ended up buying it.The lens, itself, is very light. Most of the time, this scares me -- light == cheap, to me. The plastic mount was a little off-putting, but when I figured that this would be a lens that will stay on for the majority of the time, eh, I don't foresee a problem. The non-VR performance stuff:The autofocus is zippy and the only time it spent "searching" was if I'd just switched from C to S or vice versa and even that it was ~1s, tops. The lens is crisp and, so far, has produced excellent photos. The VR stuff:First of all, read the little manual if you've not used it before...it'll save you the "why isn't this thing working?!" frustration of not waiting until it settles, thereby stabilizing, to release the shutter. That said, once the impatient luddite in me had read the manual and gave it a real go, in a real low-light situation, I was very impressed. I shot hand-held at 1/10 f/4 @ISO200 and it looked GOOD. It wasn't what I would call TACK sharp, but it was by no means blurry and there was no visible motion blur to be found. At 1/8, it wasn't so pretty, but at that point, I kind of expected that. That said, when I braced on my knee, I was able to shoot at 1/8 with nearly identical results to 1/10. AT f/22, the slowest speed I was able to get acceptable results was 1/15.Overall, I like this lens a lot. It does what I wanted and expected.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Casual Photographer
I just purchased this lens and I am having a lot of fun trying different situations with it. the sales person at wolf was very helpful and i appreciate it. This is a great lens for the amateur photographer. the 55-300 was also suggested but I chose to stick with the 55-200 as this works fine for my needs. Focuses fast, is quiet, and zooms effortless.
GREAT ADDITION !

Just getting to know my new camera and lenses! But I LOVE this zoom! Gives just enough distance to get great shots with the kiddos @ their school functions which I can't always be right on top of them!!!! Soooo wish I only had it longer !

This lens is relatively cheap, but perform better than my Nikon 24-120mm (Optically). It is surprising sharp and have very pleasing Bokeh when you zoom out to 100mm and beyond. I use it to take pictures of flowers and insects and crop them down to "Macro" proportion PP....wow!The only negative thing I can think of is the Plastic mount. Becareful not to pick your camera up by the lens (I know, the wide rubbery ring is very tempting...)or the lens mount might crack/break. I have been using this lens for over 2 years now, never have any problems with it.Highly recommended!

Great shots, Great lens at a great price
I love the zoom lens! It's very reliable with the VR stabilizer. I can zoom in and out while taking photos and they still come out in focus. I use the zoom for sports indoors and outdoors. I use it at the lake even while boating and my pictures are excellent. So I can say first hand this is an excellent lens!
