| An affordable L-series ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that's ideal for both film and digital SLRs. Superior optics are assured by the use of three aspherical lens elements, in addition to a Super UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element. Optical coatings are optimized for use with digital cameras. This lens focuses as close as 11 inches (0.28m), and offers both Canon's full-time manual focus and a powerful ring-type USM for fast and silent AF. It has a constant f/4 maximum aperture, and offers the choice of screw-in 77mm filters or a holder in the rear of the lens for up to three gel filters. Finally, it offers weather-resistant construction similar to other high-end L-series lenses. |

Comments about Canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM EF Wide-Angle Zoom Lens:
It is a very nice lens, considering it's "L" construction quality, glass quality and it's performance (for the money), you can not beat that, I've done comparison with the Canon 28 - 135 f/3.5 - 5.6, Sigma 18 - 50 f/2.8 DC, Sigma 18 - 200 IS... on Canon 40D - it is sharper lens (center and in the corners) also better color reproduction, and image consistency. For the Canon 5D Mark 2, I think it's better to go with 24 - 70 f/2.8L or 24 -105f/4L... - may be it's just my opinion...

I was surprised to get an "L" lens at this price. This one definitely deserves the "L" in build and optics. It'd been my go-to lens since I bought it in March. Each lens has its odn personality, and I really like this one. My clients like it too.

Comments about Canon 17-40mm f/4 L USM EF Wide-Angle Zoom Lens:
This lens has been with me through all. It is durable, it is versatile, its 4.0 does the job unless you are shooting in low light situations with a lot of action. The images are crisp, the range of tones (highlights, shadows, midtones) are more than the naked human eye can see. Try it, shoot a photo of the sky on a cloudy day and then look at the shot, youll be amazed at what the lens can do.
