Nikon's compact and affordable AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens continues the tradition of NIKKOR precision optics to provide photographers with sharp, high-resolution images. The integration of an ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor ensures fast, quiet and accurate autofocus operation, and complements the lens' compact form factor. Along with the SWM, the new 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens incorporates the benefit of VR Image Stabilization technology, which gives photographers the ability to shoot at shutter speeds up to three stops* slower than would otherwise be possible, while dramatically reducing the image blur caused by camera shake in handheld photography. Whether shooting sports action from the sidelines, wildlife or just capturing family memories, users can have confidence their handheld picture taking will be sharper than ever, especially in challenging lighting conditions. The VR function also stabilizes the camera's viewfinder image, making composing and capturing images even easier. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens provides excellent image reproduction capability, thanks to a newly designed optical system and the integration of an Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element and an advanced aspherical lens element. The rounded diaphragm opening makes out-of-focus background elements appear more natural, while Nikon's Super Integrated Coating ensures outstanding color balance and reproduction while reducing instances of ghosting and lens flare. DX-NIKKOR lenses are specially engineered for optical excellence with Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras, including the recently announced D90 D-SLR. DX-NIKKOR versatility is further extended by compatibility with Nikon's FX-format D3 and D700 D-SLRs that automatically recognize when a DX-format lens is mounted, and will compensate accordingly. The new 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 lens offers a 5.8x zoom range, and a visual perspective equivalent to that created by a 27-157.5mm lens on a 35mm film camera.

Comments about Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:
I most recently shot a wedding with this lens on my Nikon d5100, along with a SB-700 Speedflash. The lens was easy to handle and gave me a wide focal range, which allowed me to use one lens and not fuss around with using a second camera or changing lenses.
When shopping around, I considered buying the 18-200 but decided the extra 95mm weren't worth the additional $400+, and bought the Speedflash instead. Overall, I highly recommend the 18-105 to anyone who is looking for a reliable, all-purpose lens...

Comments about Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:
I wanted a lens that would work for walking around without having to change lens for group shots of friends or getting in closed when needing to keep a distance. This is the perfect lens the 18mm wide angle was great for landscape and group photos, and the telephoto gave me just enough zoom to isolate scenes at a distance. Great for travel, and even people shots when you don't want to be noticed.

Comments about Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:
First, I am a casual photgrapher who uses my D50 for family snapshots and everyday use. I had a 18-55mm lens that came with the camera and for some reason stopped working. So far I am very pleased with performance of this lens and it is nice to not have to change lens to get some decent zoom. Performance in low light is not quite as good as a more pupose built lens, but in my opinion, a good compromise to carrying multiple lenses. I had seen some concerns in other reviews about creep and slow focus, but cannot say that I have experienced these. Overall, exactly what I would have expected of a Nikon product.

Comments about Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:
Has not disappointed me except in very low interior light. I really need an f2.8 lens for that anyway. Remarkably sharp all around daylight and evening photos. Great color. The only lens on my camera more is the 35mm f1.8.

Comments about Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:
This lens produces really sharp images with great color and high contrast. CAs are a little objectionable near the borders, although it is often well corrected automatically in a D90. If you read the reviews and tests, you will find the resolution figures outstanding. My biggest complaint is the plastic mount and that the lens will creep to full extension when hiking. But this is a really good value and I think you'd be pleased. Nikon should switch to a metal mount, it can't add that much cost.
