Subjects gladly say cheese in the presence of this stylish image maker. The Nikon D5200 builds on the success of its predecessors, the D5000 and D5100. This latest model offers ease of use and guidance for the photographer stepping up to an SLR, yet it possesses all the image capturing technology that serious professionals demand. In fact, the D5200 has the same AF system as the D7000 and the same image processor as the new D3200. These features and more make the D5200 an excellent choice for all types of photographer.

    39-point AF System

The 39-point AF system has nine cross-type sensors and a 3D tracking system to keep subjects in focus with dramatic color. The autofocus illuminator assists with capturing close subjects in dim light, and the default AF settings are suitable for the vast majority of scenes. However, if more manual control is desired, the menu system offers a full range of creative controls.

    Full HD Video

The D5200 takes video up to 1920 x 1080 with multiple frame rates of 60i/50i. Built-in features make cinematography a breeze. The Face Priority autofocus option is useful when people are the main subject of the movie, and continuous autofocus keeps subjects in view. Sound recording with the built-in microphone can be accomplished in either automatic or manual modes, with the manual option offering numerous recording levels. For playback and review, an HDMI type-C output enables connecting the D5200 directly to an HDTV.

    Scene Recognition

After the user selects from among 16 different scene modes, the D5200 analyzes the scene and selects the best settings. Scene options include Portrait, Landscape, Children, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Indoor Party, Sports, Close-up, Food, Pet Portrait, Dawn/Dusk, Candlelight, Autumn Foliage, Spring Blossom, Beach/Snow, and Sunset. To further compliment the system, 6 picture settings allow fine control of image aspects such as sharpness, color, and contrast.

    Wireless Compatibility

WiFi transmission from the D5200 to another device, such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone is possible via the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter. The adapter plugs into the D5200 and enables file transmission to another device or attached to email. The adapter also enables a smart device to function as a remote camera monitor.

    Active D-Lighting

High-contrast scenes are no longer hard to capture. The Active-D Lighting feature analyzes scenes and suggests camera settings so the captured image mirrors what the human eye sees. The feature can remain activated for constant assistance, or it can be deactivated for more creative control. The system combines multiple shots to create one outstanding image with a full range of light and shadows. Active-D Lighting is even suitable for moving subjects.

    Built-in Flash

The pop-up flash works in either manual or automatic TTL modes. Fill flash based on matrix metering and standard flash based on spot metering both provide superior results. And while the built-in flash has the capability to handle most situations, the D5200 has a hot shoe mount for use with other Nikon speedlights, including SB-400, SB-600, SB-700, SB-800, SB-900, and SB-910.

AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens with Vibration Reduction (VR) Lens

Fine optics are some of many products Nikon is famous for, and the 18-55 VR lens is no exception. The range of the lens is equivalent to 27-82.5 in 35mm. This provides a versatile range from wide-angle through mid-telephoto. The Vibration Reduction technology allows sharp images to be captured at speeds up to three stops slower.
